Experience the excitement and competition of tournament lacrosse with no tryouts, a limited time commitment and an affordable cost. Designed for high school JV and Varsity players, this is a great opportunity to develop lacrosse fundamentals, build on-field confidence through competitive play and have fun. The MSLax 18U tournament team plays as “MNGLax” in tournaments against teams from Minnesota and across the Midwest. The goal is to provide a quality, competitive and fun lacrosse experience at an affordable price. This program is an excellent value and TRYOUTS ARE NOT REQUIRED.
Season Dates: Starts Tuesday, June 12 and goes through Thursday, August 3. NOTE: there are no team events July 1-8 due to MN State HS league ‘blackout period’ rules.
Practices and Scrimmages: Practices are twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 – 8PM (13 total). There will be up to 4 scrimmages based on availability of other teams with the possibility of an occasional Monday, Wednesday or Sunday night to allow for scheduling of scrimmages or make-up for practices cancelled due to weather.
Location: All practices are at Orono HS. Scrimmages will either be at Orono HS (home) or a metro area field (away)
Tournaments: We are participating in 3 tournaments - 2 local in MN and one in Chicago. In addition to being really fun, these tournaments are well-attended by college coaches and for players considering playing lacrosse in college, provide exposure to potential college opportunities. The tournaments we are participating in are:
• Blue Ox, June 18 - 20 in Maple Grove, MN
• The Showdown, July 21 - 23 in Naperville, IL
• Champions of Summer, August 3 - 4 in Maple Grove, MN
All tournaments are subject to minimum players signing up. The roster for tournament play is capped at 20 players to ensure all players get ample playing time. Registration will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis in the order registrations are completed and paid online. The registration fee covers tournament registration, coaching, uniform and team expenses (including a team dinner in Chicago). Players are responsible for their own transportation to Chicago, meals and lodging (carpooling is encouraged).
No Tryouts: MSLax is committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming experience for all players and there no tryouts required for participation. Players must have prior lacrosse experience with the ability to catch, throw and shoot and be generally comfortable playing at the high school level.
Age/Grade Requirements: The 18U summer program is open to all girls lacrosse players that will be in grades 8 – 12 for the 2023/2024 school year as well as all 2023 graduates.
Coaching Staff: The MSLax coaching staff includes experienced high school varsity and club coaches. Specialized goalie training is provided for goalies that sign up.
Registration: The per player fee is $1,195. This covers all practices, scrimmages, tournaments and includes field rental, coaching, tournament registration, uniforms and team expenses. To maximize the team experience for all players, players are expected to play in all 3 tournaments and partial or pro-rated registration for just certain tournaments is not available. Tournament participation is subject to a minimum number of players signing up.
Development Program: If you are not able to participate in tournaments but still would like to play, we will be accepting limited player registrations for a “development only” option that includes practices and scrimmages. This option will only be available once the minimum number of players required for tournament play have signed up. The fee for this option is $345.
Team Manager Needed: We are in need of a parent with the available time and organizational skills to be the team manager. The primary responsibilities are team communications (email), uniform distribution and coordination of team activities at tournaments. As an incentive to help, the team manager will receive a 50% discount on one player registration fee (value of $597). Please let us know if you are interested.
